Marblewood Apartments raise $700 to support kids in crisis
In November, the tenants of Marblewood Apartments in Hillcrest came together once again for their bi-annual fundraising morning tea. This much-loved event has become a cornerstone of the community, and this time it supported an incredible cause: Lil Bug Love. This mother-and-daughter initiative is dedicated to helping children impacted by domestic violence.
Lil Bug Love, founded by Cindy and Phoebe, was inspired by their personal experiences with domestic violence. Their mission is to provide comfort and distraction for children navigating the trauma of these situations. The duo has created Kids Comfort Kits, thoughtfully curated packs filled with activities and comforting items to occupy children during challenging conversations.
A signature element of these kits is a soft, crocheted snail - a simple yet meaningful token designed to bring a sense of calm and security. These kits are distributed to police stations and other key locations, where they serve as a source of solace during critical moments.
Chaplain Graham, a passionate advocate for community connection, saw an opportunity to expand the impact of this initiative. He obtained the crochet pattern for the snails and shared it with the Lifestyle Team at Clive Burdeu Aged Care. A small group of residents there who already enjoy crocheting, embraced the idea enthusiastically.
This partnership allows the residents to channel their skills into a project that not only engages their creativity but also provides them with a renewed sense of purpose. By contributing their handmade snails to the Kids Comfort Kits, these residents are playing a vital role in supporting children through stressful times.
The Marblewood Apartments’ morning tea raised an impressive $700 for Lil Bug Love. Every dollar will go directly toward supporting the production and distribution of more Kids Comfort Kits, ensuring that even more children receive the comfort and care they need during difficult times.
The event was a true community effort and drew support from a variety of individuals and organisations. Pictured at the event are:

The success of this event highlights the power of community. From the tenants of Marblewood Apartments to the residents of Clive Burdeu Aged Care, every person involved demonstrated the profound impact of coming together to support a common cause.
Events like these not only raise essential funds but also foster deeper connections among residents, local leaders, and charitable organisations. Together, they remind us that small acts of kindness can ripple out to create meaningful change.
