Quilted with Valour

A morning tea for the ceremony was attended by more than 40 people, where Frederick Gross, Irene Wolff and Norma Maiden were each presented with a quilt, a certificate and covering letter by the Queensland Coordinators of Quilts of Valour, Barbara and Bill Kenny.

Since Quilts of Valour Australia’s inception in 2012, over 1,000 handmade quilts have been awarded to Defence personnel who have fought overseas or to their immediate families who are among the fallen.

Frederick Gross is an Army veteran of 20 years standing, serving in Field Ambulance in New Guinea, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Irene Wolff was awarded the quilt in memory of her late husband, Gilbert, who enlisted in the Navy after walking from Boonah to Sydney. He served on the HMAS Kanimbla in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.

Norma Maiden (pictured above) received her quilt in honour of her late husband, Robert, who served with the RAAF in World War II.

No two quilts the same, were wrapped around each recipient as a show of strength, support and comforting hug.
