The largest social housing development in Queensland awarded
On 23 November, our purpose-built seniors community housing development at Bribie Island was named joint runner-up at the annual 2021 PowerHousing Academy Scholarships and National Awards for the Program Leadership and Government Collaboration Award.
Our Housing Services team nominated the largest affordable and accessible housing development in Queensland, our Coolamon Apartments in Bongaree, Bribie Island said newly appointed Churches of Christ Housing Services Director Mike Folland.
“This was wonderful recognition of our bespoke successful model of providing senior tenants the choice to transition to more suitable accommodation,” Mike said.
“The $27.1 million jointly Queensland Government-funded project provides a design focused on accessibility with all apartments achieving Gold and Platinum design under the Livable Housing Australia Guidelines.
“I have to also mention builders, Cornerstone Group and architect Deicke Richards and our high achieving Housing Services and Capital Projects teams that have partnered to deliver this project on time. An exceptional effort.
“We strive to build thriving communities, which is why Coolamon Apartments is co-located with the adjacent Churches of Christ’s retirement living, home care and aged care services, as well as our local church. This enables tenants to remain in their community and access the support they need when their requirements change in the future.
“Congratulations to all those involved in partnering with us on this development and also to all the winners and runners-up announced for the PowerHousing Australia national awards.
“We are new members to the network of Community Housing Providers that PowerHousing Australia represents and we are looking forward to mutually beneficial opportunities within the sector and for those we serve.”
