Emilea & Murray – South West Brisbane Carers

Emilea and Murray Johnson have been providing long-term foster care for a 14-year-old boy for the past 12 months. They have found tremendous support from the South West Foster & Kinship Care Team throughout their journey.

Right from their initial interactions, they have felt welcomed, well-informed, and genuinely supported. The assessment process was flexible, accommodating their busy schedules, and conducted with thoroughness and professionalism. Their Intensive Case Manager has been an enormous source of support, forming a trusting relationship with their young person.

Having her regularly visit their home has become something they look forward to, and they celebrate the successes of their beautiful boy together. The appreciation and trust shown by the boy can be seen in his statements like "make sure you tell Maryanne about my report card."

Emilea and Murray believe that becoming a foster carer is one of the most rewarding things one can do. The ability to positively impact a vulnerable young person's life, building healthy attachments, sharing love, and providing stability outweighs any challenges faced along the way. They emphasize that all children, including those in foster care, need love, and the privilege of being able to provide it is reciprocated tenfold.
