Leaving a legacy

This is a 140-year-old story of faith, hope and love.

In 1948 two board members Heinrich Schulz and Gordon McKelvie stood outside the Ann Street Church of Christ (pictured below). Little did they know their legacy would stretch well into the 21st century and that their grandchildren, Peter Schulz and Kerry McKelvie (now Schulz) would marry.

Gordon at the time was secretary of Ann Street Church of Christ from 1945 to 1960 and it was He who meticulously documented the churches journey for the first 50 years.  He was also Conference President of Churches of Christ in 1957 & 1958. Heinrich was a cabinet maker and built a lot of the furniture for the church.

Fast forward to 1984 when Peter and Kerry met on the grounds of the Kenmore Bible College (now the Kenmore Campus). They married and served as missionaries with the Churches of Christ Overseas Mission Board from 1987 to 1989.

Peter became a foundational member of the newly established Centenary Church of Christ in 1976 (now the Westside Church of Christ at Jamboree Heights) where he has served for many years.   Kerry dedicated 18 years to the ministry team at the Westside Church of Christ and now holds the role as a Regional Engagement Partner with Churches of Christ in Queensland.

Leaving a legacy that intertwined with their grandparents’ footsteps, Peter and Kerry are thankful to God to be part of this 140-year-old story of faith, hope and love and remain dedicated to serving the Lord in anyway they can.
